Finding the California Pizza Kitchen in the Mall - カリフォルニアピザキッチンを探せ！

After shirt shopping at Macy's, Juan suggested that we should eat something for lunch.
He said we shall go to California Pizza Kitchen, and I replied that sounds a good idea...

'Let's go!' Juan said.
'We are not getting some lunch unless YOU find it!'

So, Juan gives me an another challenge... fond California Pizza Kitchen!

デパートで買い物が終わった後、店を出ます。
そこでフアンが、「お腹空いたね」と言います。
「カリフォルニア・ピザ・キッチンはどう？」と言うフアンに、「いいね」と私。
「じゃあ、店を見つけてみよう！」

えっ？これも舌打ち修行の一環？

「店を見つけるまでは、昼飯はお預け」というフアンに、ま、仕方がないか、と、舌打ちをしながらモールの通路を歩き始めました。


Juan told me, you should ask someone where CPK is. No one will tell you unless you ask!

So, I went into one of the shops and spoke up 'Can anyone tell me where California Pizza Kitchen is?
And a lady in the store responded that I can go left at the next strip, and turn left on the next aisle and CPK is on my left.

Juan told me 'Let's go!'
I thanked the lady and we head to the left.
As we are walking, Juan told me I can always ask someone if I get lost... or near the aisle to make sure I am on the right track.

I continuously click my tongue to veer, and keep walking. Juan told me I have been doing a great job walking straight, not going into any stores nor hitting pillars.
What I did is clicking my tongue and hearing the echo from the left side of the wall. Echolocation sure helps me navigate through the mall!
As I hear the echo bouncing off from the things on my left side, like glass of show window, plastic panel and concrete wall, I am quite surprised I am picking up these information using echolocation, I proceeded forward.

Then, it seems that I came to the end of the mall...


ショッピングモールの通路に出たのは良いのですが、カリフォルニアピザキッチンが一体どこにあるのか、見当が付きません。そこでフアンが、「誰かに聞かないと。尋ねないと、誰も教えてくれないよ」と。
フアンはどうも教えてくれないらしいので、勇気を持って舌打ちをしながら、近くの店に入っていきました。
そこで、カウンターらしきところに向かって、「カリフォルニアピザキッチンがどこにあるか、教えてくれませんか？」と叫ぶと、近くのほうから、「店を左に出て、次に曲がれるところを左に行くと、左側にありますよ」と返事が返ってきました。
目が見える人なら、こんな説明でも分かるとは思いますが、視力障害者にとってはねぇ・・・と思いつつ、「ありがとう」とお礼を言って、左側に舵を取って、進みます。
フアンは、「分からなくなったら、またそこで聞けばいいし。何度も聞くことを恥ずかしいと思っていては、どこにも行けないよ」

なるほど。恥ずかしがってはいけないんだ、と心に言い聞かせながら、舌打ちをして先に進みます。
舌打ちをすると、左側の壁から反響音が返ってきます。ガラスのショーウィンドーやプラスチックの壁、店の入り口の空間など、手に取るように分かります。エコーロケーションがかなり実用的なものだとしみじみ感じながら、舌打ちをして、その反響定位で壁との距離を一定に保ちながら進んでいきます。これには、フアンも「上出来だ」と言ってくれました。

調子に乗ってずんずん進んでいくと、あれ？　
どうやらモールの端っこの店に来てしまったようです。





It seems that I reached to the other end of the mall. I was told I was in Target, and I missed the aisle that I suppose to make a left turn!

I turned back and start clicking my tongue, not to miss the opening of aisle to my right.

Than, I heard a familiar voice, 'Did you find CPK?'

That was a lady who first told me where the restaurant is.
She walked with me and showed me where I turn to the right, and I found the restaurant by its smell!

通路からそのまま店に入ってしまったようです。
どうやら、そこはモールの反対側、聞くと、Targetというお店のようです。
どうやら、左に曲がる通路を通り過ぎたみたい・・・

フアンは何も言いませんでしたが、多分あきれているのだろうと思って、そそくさとUターン。
すると、先ほど聞いたことのある声で、「カリフォルニアピザキッチンは見つかりましたか？」と聞こえました。
私が見事に迷っているのを察知してくれたのか、右に曲がるところまでついていってくれました。

そこから右に曲がって、左側。ありました、ありました！
匂いからいって、間違いない！
